Joseph Carew’s area of expertise is in the history of classical German philosophy, particularly German Idealism and the 19th century. He has published several books as well as numerous articles and book chapters in this area.

In the area of 20th-century continental philosophy, Joseph has published on French phenomenology and psychoanalysis.
